These are Things (I want)

Who wants to buy this for me? Come on… any takers?

American Flags Map from These Are Things

For Christmas, I gave Nick a framed print of a vintage map of our town; he loves all kinds of maps, and I love all the different maps that have been popping up in the design world lately. Perhaps maps could be a fun theme throughout our new home? Have I justified my inevitable purchase of this yet?

the new & improved Claremont Collection

Perhaps this will help to explain my quietness this summer.

When I haven’t been fawning over my new niece, my partners and I have been busy making over the Claremont Collection website — and the collection itself!

beautiful photos by Trevor Dixon, styled by Susan of Fleurishing

Since the collection originally launched last year, we’ve evolved and grown, and it was time for Claremont Collection to do the same. As such, we have retired a few designs, added four fresh new designs, made over the identity, added even more ink colors for couples to customize their unique invitation suite — and wrapped it all up in a shiny new website. We’ve worked really hard, and we’re so happy with the final outcome.

Oh, and the cherry on top of it all?

One of our new designs can be seen on page 122 of the new issue of Martha Stewart Weddings! Can you hear me squealing? Because I am. You can also see our design included in the magazine’s online edition, but I recommend getting your hands on the real thing :)

For those of you who have already heard the news via Twitter, Facebook, and our Curious & Co. blog, thanks for bearing with me as I get all of my excitement out!

wee little stitches

These cross stitch patterns make me giggle. I mean, is there anything cuter than iconic 80s movie characters miniaturized and pixelated? I didn’t think so.

what’s new…

As you may have noticed from my lack of frequent posting, life has been a little busy lately! In case you’re wondering, here are some highlights from what’s been going on in my world:

Work has been very busy, which is a great thing. In the very near future we’ll be introducing a shiny new Curious & Co. website… stay tuned!

• Speaking of work, I’ve been whipping up some fun custom save-the-dates and invitations, in addition to fulfilling Claremont Collection orders. We recently had a custom invitation design featured on Oh So Beautiful Paper, which was very exciting. We’re also thrilled that we’ll be featured in the upcoming Wedding Invitation Ideas Lookbook, a free annual e-book from Invitation Crush.

• I’m partnering with the lovely ladies at Weddingbee on a new feature called Buzzworthy. Once a week, I put together a new inspiration board to share with readers, which is featured on the blog every Monday. Below are my two favorites so far; check them out on Weddingbee for a closer look and complete shopping guides!

• Nick and I have been visiting some open houses as we plan to start seriously house-hunting soon. I have bookmarked a ridiculous number of homes on Realtor.com and at the moment, we’re having fun just dreaming and envisioning what our future home may look like; I’m sure we’ll be weeding out a lot of properties once we get pre-approved and start working with a realtor. When we get a bit more serious about it, it’s safe to assume that I’ll be posting all about our adventures here!

What’s the best advice you homeowners can pass along as we begin our search?

hey babe studio

We didn’t have a ring bearer in our wedding, but we may have considered having one had these ring pillows from hey babe studio been around then. I love the colors and beautiful texture, and Michelle makes each and every one by hand. I don’t think I’d have the patience (not to mention the skill), which makes me all that much more enamored with them!

more flea market treasures!

Nick and I visited his parents over the weekend and made a stop at our favorite flea market. We weren’t expecting to come away with any treasures since it was a bit cold out and there weren’t as many vendors as usual, but we actually scored some great loot — for a grand total of $6.

The first thing I spotted was this awesome oversized art instruction book. It is filled with amazing diagrams, instructions and promotional ads from the Bureau of Naval Personnel. I can’t find a year of publication, but it is most definitely old and I would love to frame some of the pages as prints someday.

Might I draw your attention to the female figure dressed in her demure swimsuit, and her male counterpart wearing a…thong??? Good times.

The same vendor also had these awesome “walkie talkies” that I couldn’t resist. (The quotation marks are part of the name, see?) I love the leather casing and the little accessories — I think they’ll be a great conversation-piece when we find the perfect place to display them.

For these two items, we paid the vendor $6, and I guess he liked us because he located another old art book in his collection and gave it to us for free. So nice!

I love my strange and obscure little treasures. Flea marketing is going to be a whole new ballgame when we have a house and more room for furniture, but for now I enjoy finding little things here and there.

DIY for a special little guy

Phew…it’s been a busy week over here, which explains my absence! I’m so excited to share this cute project with you, though, and I hope it will make up for things being so quiet here lately.

I had the pleasure of spending last Sunday afternoon celebrating the impending mommyhood of my friend Emily. She and I met through blogging when we were both sharing our wedding planning experiences on Weddingbee, and we have become great friends over the last few years. I thought it only appropriate that part of my baby shower gift to Emily call attention to her blogger status, so I made some (pretty stinkin’ cute, if I do say so myself) custom onesies for little baby boy O’.

You know I’m a big fan of my Gocco, but for this project I knew that I didn’t want to work with the limitations of screen-printing, especially since I was only producing one final product with each design. Instead, I wanted something with full color (knowing that I planned for at least one of the pieces to include Emily’s Tiramisu icon from Weddingbee), so I turned to iron-on transfers. I never used iron-on t-shirt transfers before so I was a tad hesitant that they’d look cheap, but I was pleasantly surprised with the final result.
