let’s get together {yeah, yeah, yeah…}

I’ve never been to summer camp, but I always imagined it being just like the camp where Sharon and Susan (Haley Mills and Haley Mills) came face-to-face and discovered that they were long-lost twins in The Parent Trap.

I think it’s safe to say that this was one of my first favorite movies as a kid… I can still recite just about every line, and “Let’s Get Together” gets stuck in my head at least once a month. I completely wore out the VHS tape (which was a recording from The Disney Channel). I think it is also where my love of retro dresses and bathing suits began.

Check out this cute guide to living in The Parent Trap on Design*Sponge. And now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go scare away some mountain lions.

  1. Ok, now that song is in my head…love that movie! Brings back so many memories…wow. =)

  2. Ok, Design*Sponge’s post makes me think of the American Girl books/catalog that I read as a child. Did you read those? The set of perfect clothes and accessories is charming! Also, that movie is a summer classic!

  3. Dang it, now I have that song stuck in my head too! ;) I never got to go to sleep away camp as a kid, only day camp, but I too used to imagine it was just like this movie.

  4. I will have that song in my head for days. I love love love that movie. The haircut scene is the best.

  5. my mom and i were JUST discussing how much we love this movie. and what a shame it was that li-lo brought shame upon its good name.

  6. Are you trying on purpose to constantly come up with lots of reasons why we’d totally be friends IRL? I’m totally onto you with this post :)

  7. I just realized I used the word “totally” twice in that comment. That’s totally embarrassing.

  8. @Becky, I never got into American Girl, but I do remember looking at the catalogs with all of the different themed outfits and books!

    @Colleen – I know — it’s pretty amazing, too, considering the lack of technology available in the 60s. Those credits must have taken them a LONG time, but the result was totally worth it!

    @Terry – I have to admit that I love the remake, too (since it was before LiLo’s corruption).

    @Amy – it’s totally okay ;)

  9. ::love:: this movie! I will, for sure, have this song stuck in my head all. day.
